I think the iPhone 4 is still the easiest to use and best phone. My friend has an evo and I think it is too big and his is always crashing. Even if they release an iPhone 5 I might just keep the 4 until the 4g/lte/wimax whatever it is comes out unless mine is lost/stolen/broken.
I really can't think of anything they can do to it other than that; a faster processor or memory doesn't matter to me because I don't really play many games, better camera doesn't matter because I don't take many pics, 3D screen on small display seems like a gimmick, when I have a 3dtv. Maybe there will be something surprising but if my phone was lost/stolen/broken today I would go get an iPhone 4 again.

You are entirely correct. There is really nothing that will make the daily life of an American citizen better 'cause their can of Bud is 331ml, or their corn-beef sandwich has 125gs of beef, and 12ml of mustard on two slices of rye, each 115mm thick.

Or how the United Kingdom still has an unwritten constitution? Or how half of Europe still has an official state church? Or how the French presume guilt rather than innocence? Or how Italy is still run by political machines?
Modernity is always a hindsight judgment. What should matter is if the system is not working for the people who use it. With private industries transitioning manufacturing to metric, the biggest argument in favor of the metric system is moot. The question then comes down to whether or not you are better positioned to judge what other people need or want.

I welcome this idea. Intel is a disgusting anti-competitive company that cannot play fair. Apple is forced to use Intel's chipset and IGP instead of Nvidia which may have lead Apple to a decision like this. ARM is the future as is iOS, so like it or lump it. The low end Macs would probably have ARM and others both ARM and Intel. I would also welcome a switch to AMD.

That's right, I'm a customer, and I'll modify my apple device how I see fit, and that including jailbreaking, enabling XCode to develop applications for my device without paying apple $99 ( afterall,nothing is going to reach the appstore - so why does Apple deserve the $99 ?). At the end of the day - a JB device is more useful than a locked up device.
LOL! Did the policy change? iOS dev kit was free and the $99 was if you wanted to join the developers program. Either way... $99 to join a developers program is cheap. Yeah... not free... but not $1500 or more like many other companies who have developer programs.
And yes, you do have your "right" to modify your iPhone as you see fit. But I have to agree with Apple on this one... encouraging people to JB for a silly and ugly Scion theme is not good commercial business. What they should say is "Void your Apple warrantee and install our ugly Scion theme". No company should encourage the public to do things that will bust their warrantee and Apple has the rights to "put the brakes" on this Toyota. :D

Personally, I think that iP4 is the most aesthetically pleasing phone on the market. I'm not surprised to hear they will not change the design because the transition from 3G to 3Gs was similar.
The faster processor isn't necessarily a good enough reason for me to upgrade because the apps that I use regularly perform more than adequately on my iP4 (probably on 3G/3Gs models too). If I decide to start shooting more video (and editing it) or do other heavy lifting on my phone I will consider upgrading.
That being said, I think it is important for Apple to upgrade to a dual core processor, increase the memory, and make it capable of using at least one 4G network to compete with the latest Android based phones on the market.

Redundant power supplies are generally not a standard feature for most x86 servers sold. It isn't a must (requirement); it is an optional feature need if want to sell to the relatively small subset of the market that wants them. (e.g, none of Google's, Microsoft's ,etc search/cloud servers have dual power supplies and they number in the many, many thousands. )

But that 1 specialised custom application is not an industry standard and is far from the norm in building data centers.

I agree. Given the last Ford we purchased leaked and after 6 months of trying to fix it, the Ford dealer said "well, everything leaks" and said they'd give a good deal on it to trade it in if we wanted. And the last GM we had stalled every morning when you were pulling out on to the road and the dealer said that it was "just the way the car was made," and could never fix it I wouldn't buy an American made car unless they started getting good reports both for quality upfront (they just sound cheap compared to a Honda, Mercedes, Lexus, Porsche, or Toyota) and for quality over 5-6+ years of ownership. And the previous American made cars we had were of similar low quality.

The "overall user base" and "purchases from Sept-to-March" numbers are primarily pre-Verizon iPhone and thus provide little insight on current sales. However, the survey on consumers currently planning to buy smartphones is quite interesting as it confirms the (very limited) existing data on current sales.
From the all the hit counter data, plus VZW and ATT quarterly releases, my best guesses for *current* iPhone vs Android sales have been roughly:
ATT: iPhone outsells Android 4-to-1 (80% iPhone)
VZW: iPhone outsells Android 2-to-1 (66% iPhone)
Sprint + T-Mo: Android outsells iPhone infinity-to-1 (0% iPhone)
Each group above has roughly one-third of the US mobile market, so overall iPhone share should be 0.33*0.8 + 0.33*0.66 +0.33*0 = 48%. This is exactly the number from the Nielsen survey regarding consumers currently planning to buy a smartphone (30% iPhone vs 33% Android = 47.6% iPhone share).

The plant with mass rates of suicide is in China.
wired had an article about this a couple months back. The suicide rate at the Foxconn plant is lower than the suicide rate in the rest of the Chinese population (possibly lower even than in the US, I can't remember the article exactly).
So basically, as sad as the suicides are that happened, the "mass rates of suicide" is/was a media beat-up. As is, quite possibly, this whole article come to think of it. Someone looking to bring down the price of Apple shares, a so-called shortage of some obscure component that of course can only be manufactured in Japan is a good way to do it

I really do like the concept of having an enormous amount of online storage, immediately accessible from anywhere.. but ultimately I see this as an issue of me having to pay someone else for granting access to things I already own.
Do you like paying a fee to your bank when you take out YOUR OWN MONEY from the bank? Your bank says its because its a "convenience", which of course it is....but when I have to pay them money to get something that is mine, I have a problem with that.
Remember when television was free? We just had to put up with advertisements, and for that, we got free TV. Now many people pay 79 bucks a month or more to get cable or satellite TV. Time have changed. Now we are paying alot of money just to get tv, something that once was free of charge. Oh, yeah, and we still have ads. Funny how that works.
Of course companies like Amazon and Apple are not in it for your convenience, they're in it because if everyone eventually has all their files stored online in the cloud, there's TONS and TONS of money to be made- for ever. If I have a computer, phone or music listening device with ample amounts of storage space, these companies don't make any money off of me after I purchase that music from itunes or wherever. (And if I have cds or blu ray movies, they don't make any money on me at all). This cloud concept provides some convenience, but more importantly guarantees a steady flow of income for these companies for many years to come.
Flash memory storage capacities are growing yearly.. and prices are continuing to drop. Now companies are starting to ship secure digital cards with capacities of a staggering 128 GB on a tiny compact flash card! Ultimately I think most people will be able to have enormous amounts of files locally on their own phone or portable computer.
